#ArtADay

At the moment, life for me is writing lots of job applications. It’s good practice in writing about myself… it’s good practice in not getting frustrated when people don’t get in touch with you… it’s good practice in reminding myself just why I want to be a successful artist…. but it’s not a good practice in creativity!

So………… A year of creativity.

I’m going to create a piece of art every single day from my 23rd birthday to my 24th.
I want to bring more creativity into my life, and I think the best way to do that is to experiment with my craft a little bit everyday.

Follow my project on Facebook, as that is where I’ll be posting my art everyday.

All pieces in this Facebook album are for sale. Prices from £5-£35 with postage included. Just click on the individual photographs for more details.

I’m still working on my Ondine project, she’s just a little in the background as I try to re-build my momentum for her. I love her, she is my most exciting project, but sometimes she becomes a little overwhelming… and the anxiety that plagues me can’t always deal with that. Ondine, know I love you, but I just need to work on you slower than I intended.
At the moment, my lovely blog readers, I’ve mostly been focusing on the writing aspect, and the logistics…. so, I don’t have any pretty pictures to show you :( but, I will always keep you updated when I do!!

For now! here are some pretty pictures of some of my favourite #ArtADay pieces so far…

Happy 18th Birthday Nicole Leadbetter

For my cousin’s 18th Birthday I made her an ocean inspired necklace and earrings set.

She loves all things under the sea, in particular whales and dolphins…. so what to make her? A whale tail necklace with splash drop earrings of course!
And as, she too, is a February birthday, it just had to be an amethyst stone… these ones a beautiful pastel Lavender Amethyst.

A few in process shots…

Ondine Updates

Well Hi there little mermaid.

So sorry I haven’t paid any attention to you for quite some time.

Life is odd. Things have happened. I had a five-month long moment. I think it’s passing now. I’m back to my relatively normal reality.

And with that I’m back to focusing on my beautiful undine and all her sparkling finery.

I’ve finished my first draft of the story. That was really exciting. If anything it’s what brought me back. I’m in love with Ondine all over again, and I can’t wait to pick up my work again. It needs working through, adding bits to, taking bits out… but it’s there. It’s a story. It’s real.

And now I’m back into my beautiful creative bubble, of course, I’ll start filling up this little blog with lots of updates and images of what’s going on too!

To start with… a few sketchbook pages of late.

I’m going back to the beginning almost. Re-familiarising myself with her tale, and her tail. I’ll be at the drawing board for a while, trying to figure out where to go with my collection samples, what to do with my knotty tail ideas, and all the while tailoring her story to it’s finest… and talking it through with a wonderful filmmaker to figure out how to transform her tale into images. If you’re crushing on my project, and have any filmy/acting/music/anything experience, please hit me up!

Ooo and here are a few knotty samples…

All pretty exciting, huh?

Stay tuned for tales, and tails, and pearls of wisdom, and some actual pearls too!

Oh, and I’ll leave you with this oh-so-glorious song from Laura Marling, it’s appropriately titled Undine, and shares a similar thread to my own story.

Hey Laura, fancy writing me a soundtrack for my film?!

Ondine Tail Weaving Samples

As well as my collection samples I’ve been working on designs for Ondine’s tail. First I tried out some knitting samples…. they didn’t go so well!

????????????????????????????????????

My woollen ones weren’t bad… but I am no expert knitter! Knitting Lessons with Shelia (sample)Machine knitting sample (3)

And when I started off knitting with wire… it just wasn’t the kind of effect I want my tail to have. Don’t get me wrong, I quite like these samples…. I just want Ondine’s tail to have more density, more fluidity, and more substance.Machine knitting sample (4)

So I moved onto weaving! My fluffy rainbow woollen sample went quite well… so well I think I might whip up some more of these woven branches… and perhaps pop them up in my Etsy store!Weave Samples (1)

Now a small rope weave…. this is it! This is the tail…. just much larger and with added silvered inclusions.

Oooo excited now! Can’t wait to make up my loom and get to work!
