Dalkeith Country Park Walk

My wonderful parents bought me a new DSLR camera for my birthday… and I’ve not had much of a chance to use it, so decided to take it out on a sunny dog walk around Dalkeith Country Park and take a few snaps of the natural beauty there.

RNIB Edinburgh Glow Run 2015

On spooky Saturday night I helped out our wonderful friend Sara at the RNIB Edinburgh Glow Run… and it was marvellous neon fun!

Inspired by the colourful full moon parties held in Thailand, and raising money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Glow is a night time 3km fun run, with a difference. Participants will run, walk or dance the 3km route, sprayed with glow water and lit up by an Ultra Violet backlight as they go. There will be motivating music to ensure that this is the most fun night run in the UK!

Edinburgh was the last run for 2015… but bookmark the website and check back in 2016 for more events… they’re great fun! and raise money for a great cause.

Now… enjoy some wonderfully neon photos….!

Zoo Nights/I’m A Tiger…. RAAAWWWRRRRRR!!!

Edinburgh Zoo Nights is an adult-only event where you can enjoy street food in a relaxed atmosphere, wander round and see the animals in the early evening and enjoy some entertainment to start your Friday night. At this year’s events, you’ll get the chance to mingle with the dinosaurs after-hours. Explore the Zoo’s ‘Dinosaurs Return!’ exhibition – life-sized animatronic dinosaurs in their own lost world enclosure. Our Dinosaur Keepers will be on hand to answer any questions, we’ll have special talks by dinosaur experts, the chance to try out your palaeontology skills with fossil digs, and you will come across a few other dino-related surprises along the way.

Safe to say I was pretty excited by the time Friday came along!

1. I love the zoo!

2. There will be no kids about to spoil it………!

3. DINOSAURS!!!

It was a great night! Thanks Morven, my tiger friend, for a wonderful time :)

The only thing that sucked a little was the price! £20 was okay, but a little too much for the ticket… but I would have been okay with it if the food/drink wasn’t in the range of £6 for a box of noodles, £5 a drink!! Not cool zoo. However the face paint was definitely the best £5 I’ve ever spent!!! RAWRRRR! And seeing the animals at an unusual time was pretty cool… but a little disappointed the big cats were closed :( They’re my favourite :( But dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are cool. And zoo if you’re reading, you guys should have an adult-only day out at the zoo! We would be so down with that! Basically do what you do at the nights, but during the day with all the normal zoo stuff…. and no kids to get in the way! and booze! cocktails seem to go wonderfully with wandering around animals :)

Anyway…. enough rambling….. enjoy some photos!!!

Gilmerton Cove

My second Seize the Day Meetup day (for the first, pop over here)!

As part of Obscura Day we wandered on down to Gilmerton, and tucked in between a few shops at the crossroads is the entrance to Gilmerton Cove.

Gilmerton Cove is a series of hand carved passageways and chambers that lie below ground to the south of Gilmerton crossroads. After five years of work by Gilmerton Heritage Trust and The City of Edinburgh Council to restore and preserve it for future generations, it opened in August 2003, providing visitors of all ages with an educational and fun experience. The entrance to Gilmerton Cove is through a visitor centre adapted from a traditional mining cottage.

Our guide was really knowledgeable, and the tour was fantastic. Would thoroughly recommend it, if you’re looking for a bit of mystery in Edinburgh. Check out the website for more details… and have a nosey at some of my photos below!

Amanda Palmer’s Art of Asking Tour at Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall and some bonus shots of her signing my Coin-Operated Boy Vibrator Container!!!

11391173_10152800658397553_8052352396753215463_n

Those who know me, know how much I love Amanda Palmer…… a lot! So anytime she pops on over to our lovely little island, I’m always first in line for a ticket! This time it was part of her Art of Asking book tour (and quite possibly last tour for a quite a wee while… oh noes!). If you haven’t read the book yet, read it. Just go. Go now. It’s fantastic. Book link here. TED talk link here. Go now. Enjoy.

The show was wonderful. Slow-paced… a little sombre with all the sad song requests… but broken up with bouts of laughter from the hilarious Janey Godley and the pregnant lady song!!… and she did play two of my favourites, Delilah and Coin-Operated Boy… and I got to sit on the floor inches away from the stage… oh, and I met a lot of wonderful music lovers, from one of my lovely little meetup groups (p.s. thanks for organizing that Dave!)… ooo and most exciting was when she read out my question!!! Teehee I’m glad the alien barcodes are the price of the baby!… and I am also now the proud owner of an Amanda Palmer nudie pen.

Yup, awesome show was awesome.

And if the show wasn’t enough I got to meet her at the kick-ass signing the next day in Waterstone’s. I don’t think I managed to say anything remotely intelligent to her, but I gave her a copy of my Coin-Operated Boy story, and my favourite hand-held silver brooch from that collection too! and she signed my box!!! I am now one happy jeweller!!!

Amanda if you’re reading this, I love you, I hope you like my story, and thank you.IMG_5923 IMG_5924 IMG_5928

And a bonus shot of the lovely camera-man’s feet!! Thanks!

Much love,
